My students need 3 guitars to feed their hunger for learning!
Guitar is one of the most asked about instruments in my school. My students desperately want to learn how to play!
I am extremely lucky to be at a school where my students cheer as they walk into music class.
They are diligent workers and really care about learning. I am also lucky to have an administration who is supportive of developing the music program in spite of budget and testing pressures. Everyone loves hearing the music that comes out of my classroom. We put on our first concert last year and are looking forward to an even better concert this year! The students are working so hard giving up their lunch, recess, and after school time to practice. We are a title 1 school with 100% of our students receiving free lunch. This means the only music education they have access to is the one I give them.
My students want to learn as much as they can. The smiles on their faces when they conquer their fears of playing in front of their peers or play something on their recorder correctly are truly priceless. This is why I go to work every day. My students inspire me.
I want to grow this music program so that every student has all of the opportunities that I did growing up. I want to start a guitar class in addition to the recorder classes I offer now, however we need guitars!!
These donations are necessary because I do not have access to school funding.
Having these guitars would mean that my students would have the opportunity to learn something that could end up being lifelong for them. They can understand better the music that they already listen to as well as expand their knowledge and appreciation for unfamiliar music. My students constantly ask about learning guitar. My only limitation is that I do not have enough supplies!
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
