Do you ever need a break? Our morning begins with a song, a circle, a community of eager learners. Each student in my class is learning at least one language. Knowing what a struggle learning language can be reminds me of the support needed to maximize fun, play, breaks and structure to learn.
The students in my class are 6 and 7 year old children.
They are playful, curious, emotional, active and engaged. The students come to school every day eager to try new things, learn new things, ask many questions and explore new ideas. In order to do all of these things the students in my class must learn Math, Literacy, Writing, Science, Social Studies in both English and Spanish. They have the same amount of time everyday as all other students with the goal and objective of maximizing language while they explore. The students come from diverse families from all over the world and from all different walks of life. In addition to learning all 1st grade standards my students are exploring bigger ideas in the world such as their own feelings, racism, friendships, etc. Supporting these students is crucial in supporting the growth of bi-literate and engaged world citizens in the future.
My Project
Student in my class will use the books to ask questions and explore ideas and support further language development. They will use all the writing materials to explore in playful and meaningful ways to write and use language. They will use the timers and other organizational materials to support their exploration and the structures in the classroom that allow teachers to manage 33 students, support learning and language development at the same time. They will use the math games to support math language and learning. The cash register will be used in the school store that teaches students the role of needs verses wants and earning money and paying for the daily needs. My students will use all the fidgets, gel beads and the play foam to engaging mental breaks and attention supports after completion of their work.
This project supports the curiosity and learning of 33 six and seven years old children and their increased language development.
This will support their language development, exploration, mental and emotional relaxation and learning in a way that is meaningful, engaging and enjoyable.
