This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
or most of my students, school offers structure, safety, food, and other things many take for granted. As a Title I school (95% of our students receive free or reduced-cost lunch) with an English Language Learner population of 95% in an bustling neighborhood, these needs are more important than ever. In addition to basic needs, school should offer engaging and meaningful opportunities in learning. Finding the funds and time to gather supplies to create these opportunities can be consuming, but these students deserve it.
Despite the disadvantages these students are dealt, they are some of the brightest, kindest, and hard-working kids around.
Despite learning disabilities, socioeconomic backgrounds, and language barriers, they work hard to achieve their academic and interpersonal goals and find success. But these students and their teachers do need help. Any tool or project to keep these students interested and motivated is crucial.
My Project
Unstructured time like recess can be a difficult time for students, especially if they lack equipment and a way to get that equipment. Without equipment, students have no way to get their energy out in constructive and fun ways.
No student is ready to learn when they are full of energy and a desire to play, but, with a sturdy equipment cart, balls, and jump ropes, you can help the entire school get ready for learning!
Right now, students are struggling to get ready to learn with the lack of equipment. Currently, we have no way to display and share the little equipment we do have at recess. We hope that having bright, new equipment on a sturdy cart will show our students how important it is to get ready to learn.
