This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are all very different, but all so very amazing. They are bright and spontaneous. They are caring and noble. They are determined to find their way in the world outside the school doors. My students live in an urban community. My classroom it built upon good morals and fixing mistakes while appreciating the many different cultures our classroom community brings together. I want to provide them with a strong structured environment where they feel safe and comfortable being themselves. As middle schoolers, each and every one of my students is in the process of discovering who they are as individuals, making decisions in their present that will change and impact their futures forever. My students are all amazing. They don't need much to succeed because they are brilliant and resilient, but they deserve so much more than I can give them as their teacher!
My Project
My students struggle with math language because they don't understand what is being asked of them. By having the math graffitti word wall words, not only do my students get to see and talk about the words, they offer a definition through picture. Many of my students are visual learners, by learning math language by pictures, my students will have a better grasp on what the terms actually mean and what they are supposed to do. By having a better understanding for vocabulary, not only will my students be more successful in the classroom and on standardized testing but also in life.
