Help me give my students essential hygiene, classroom, and food supplies. I want my students to have their basic needs both inside the classroom and at home.
My students are a very special group of children that are facing circumstances that are difficult for adults. Nothing will be the same in our community after Hurricane Michael and trying to adjust to our “ new normal” is no small task. Many students went from typical households to their families facing economic hardships, instantly. Although times in the Panhandle are extremely difficult, my students come to class smiling and ready to work hard. They are ready to learn because, for some, school is the only stable aspect of their life at this moment.
My Project
I am asking for support to build an extreme " Student Work Center" to combat the effects of Hurricane Michael. I have always had a student work center in my classroom that included items like pencils, paper and erasers. I wanted my students to never have to worry about these items so that they were prepared for not only my class but the school day. Since Hurricane Michael hit, a vast majority of my students' lives have been turned upside down. I now want my student center to include items for hygiene and hunger to insure they never do without their basic needs.
