Welcome to my suburban classroom of twenty third grade students! My students come from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds, and have a love of learning. We get along well and support each other in our journey of learning, accepting that we all learn in different ways.
Eight and nine years old love to move and wiggle!
Sitting upright in plastic chairs is not the most conducive learning environment for everyone. We are requesting flexible seating that will give students the option of moving and feeling comfortable while working in the classroom. We spend a lot of time working in pairs and small groups, and flexible seating would make meeting in partners easier. We read everyday for an average of 30 minutes, and the students enjoy being able to sit in various places or corners around the room. Large pillows would make it more comfortable for them when sitting on the floor or carpet.
My Project
Options of flexible seating in my classroom will allow students to choose the seating/learning environment that works best for them. Right now my students sit on regular plastic desk chairs in our classroom. Having a choice of seating when doing their school work would enable students to strengthen their core, while strengthening their minds!
Stronger cores, stronger minds!
Flexible seating gives students the opportunity to bounce, wiggle, stand, or sit. The balance balls will allow the students to bounce while reading, writing or collaborating, and in turn, the bouncing and wiggling back and forth will strengthen their core. Two for one! Students who feel comfortable in their learning environment are the ones that are comfortable learning! Thank you for considering my project.
