Help me give my students to have the best weight equipment available to increase their strength and endurance, and become stronger to perform daily living skills.
My school is a separate facility for students with severe/profound intellectual disabilities. Students are served on two specifically designed campuses. The younger children occupy a wing renovated in 2011, with a capacity for 6 fully equipped classrooms. Older students attend another location built in 2005, where there are 18 classrooms, as well as kitchens, a greenhouse, gym, and media center. Additionally, at both locations there are therapy rooms, nurses' stations, administrative offices, multi sensory suites and adapted playgrounds. We also have a Nature Trail which is a wonderful place for fitness activities with my students.
My Project
Many of my students have a low fitness level and often struggle to perform their daily living skills. There are many barriers to physical activity include cost, poor access to activity. Our school is committed to helping our students with low fitness by providing an area adjacent to the Adapted Physical Education area.
In our Fitness Center we have various stations with physical fitness equipment.
We do not have any free weights and would like to add them to our fitness program. Fitness and physical activity are important for health and growth during adolescence, this is a critical time to learn lifelong behaviors. I want my students to be able to use the weights in the fitness center to increase their strength and endurance, and become stronger to perform daily living skills. We have many students who enjoy the Physical Education classes but have such low fitness it is difficult for them. I want them to become STRONG, STRONGER,STRONGEST.
