My Students

I teach in a school that is very diverse with many different languages spoken at home. Students come to my classroom and want to learn new things everyday. They want to be able to connect with each other through lessons that we are learning.

I want to build a community in the room where every voice is heard and students can reflect and relate to what we are learning in class to their lives.

My students enjoy helping each other and being a teacher to all which not only supports their own learning but the learning of others as well.

My Project

Getting students excited about reading is a goal that I try and accomplish with my students at the very beginning of the year. When students feel excited about a subject, they tend to give more effort and are effectively engaged. By having a class set of Fish In a Tree, my hope with this book will be to help accomplish our goal by making reading fun! With this book, students will read independently, as a whole group, and in small groups and support their learning in fluency, comprehension, and writing skills. While reading this book, students will discuss, write, and comprehend the main points of the story and support their learning from various lessons from our daily curriculum. Fish In a Tree is a great book to read at any time of the year, but having this book to begin the year will get students eager to learn more stories related to this one, and help compare story to story, author to author, and deepen their comprehension to support their learning in reading and writing!
