Inquisitive, artistic and genuine are words that represent my group of students this year as well as diverse and multicultural.
Their minds know no limit to the learning adventures they will take on.
However, they are limited by their reading skills. Yet, their growth mindset about reading is not challenged by outside opinions and judgment, because they know that if they try they will accomplish.
Our school has more than 80% reduced lunch recipients. Many students also come to our school with traumatic experiences and diverse family compositions.
The materials that I have chosen will assist me in my challenge this year to transform my non-readers to fluent readers. Using text at their beginning levels will assist me to provide the intervention that is needed to help them level up in their reading fluency.
This year I have acquired a group of students who are challenged in reading skills.
They need all the support and time they can get to be successful in the future.
Yet, with the power of growth mindset and determination I can help my students feel confident in reading and initiate the love for reading.
