Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are spectacular in the way they nurture each other. Everyone cheers for one another and reminds each other that they are GREAT. They make every day a joy to be in my classroom and that is important to me. I want my students to want to come to school every day and take home what they have learned in class.
Entering my classroom doesn't feel like a chore or a must-do job.
It's full of joy and family vibes. We work hard and play hard to ensure we get the goals laid out for us to accomplish. If it wasn't for their great attitude (which we practice on a daily basis) I wouldn't be able to reach them at the level needed to be a great teacher.
My Project
Being from a Title I school, low poverty area, the basic needs of notebook paper or markers can be a hard request for some parents. Learning should be a priority without the judgment of being unprepared. Since our school is starting a college readiness program called AVID, it requires us to be very organized with five composition notebooks each and storage bins to house them. In addition to organization, I want to set-up the classroom to be a more of a flexible atmosphere. By adding the stools to our teacher station, it will reduce the anxiety of fixed structure and provide a more inviting feel.
Everyone remembers that excitement of gathering all your school essentials the night before school.
However, the reality is that some students dread being unprepared for class due to their hardships. My classroom needs and will be a safe haven for all students in whatever situation. Using the decals and laminator can also give me the ability to teach efficiently and in a timely manner instead of stepping out of class for the extra resources.
