My students need a television set to watch step by step implementation of various strategies.

What do our children see? I am a Mathematics teachers. I have been assigned to grade 7. I worked in a high need community. School started last week, since that time my students' have had two assessments. On both assessments' their prior knowledge was tested. When I received the results I was heart broken. My students had such a difficult time retaining the data that was previously taught. I found a great textbook that would allow me to teach current lessons while reviewing necessary information. However, due to the increase in budget cuts we were unable to purchase those textbooks. Therefore, I decided to use the materials that I have to assist my struggling students'. However, these materials are available on DVD and videotape. Again I found myself at a dead end. I would love to open my students' eye's to the world of Math through a real world connection and visual stimulant.
My students' are without the proper electronics to view the materials that would afford them the opportunity of grasping their math concepts. Many of the students' learn and retained information that is taught in a visual manner. This encourages them to progress and succeed in their studies.
The use of a functioning television will give my students the chance to see what their minds are trying to perceive. All students have a way in which they learn. During the age of video games we know that our youth are captivated by television. Why not use that same device to educate them.
It takes a village to raise a child. For the future of society depends on what and how they learn; and what they will do with that knowledge. Please consider being apart of that village.
