This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our students are high achievers who love to engage in discussion about science and the connections to the real world. We are located on the south side of Chicago and engaging with the environment is not always easy.
My students love to ask questions and often ask insightful ones that require some research outside of our curriculum.
They love to engage with technology, posting to our Google Classroom page, creating innovative digital products, and finding ways to research and explain their ideas.
They yearn to learn more and expand their worldview. Experiencing natural and built environments outside of our urban neighborhoods allows them to see new opportunities, problems, solutions, and careers!
My Project
My students need additional resources to prep for AP Environmental Science exam in May. My students last year utilized some test prep resources and many of them passed the AP test and earned college credit! One recently sent me a thank you letter, because she was able to earn college credit at Berkeley due to her 4 on the exam!
Having these funded allows ALL my students to have access to quality test prep resources, rather than only those who seek out additional resources, or those whose parents can afford them.
Leveling the playing field for my students is one of my major goals. I have seen some of my students defy the odds and be among the small group of students in Illinois who earn 4's and 5's!
