Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a high school band teacher in an urban school district, and I teach instrumental music to students from ninth to twelfth grade with varying levels of experience. Most of my students come from a low socioeconomic background and cannot afford extracurricular activities, such as music.
Many of my students tell me that band is the reason they come to school.
My school is 65% Hispanic, 25% Caucasian, and 10% African-American. More than 90% of my school receives free or reduced rate lunch, which means that we are a Title I school. For the past five years, our students have been working extremely hard to raise their scores on the FCAT/FSA/PARCC! In the past five years, we have moved from an F school to being a C school, which means that We are on the move! My students are extremely motivated to succeed at whatever they do!
My Project
The requested strings will help make my students excel at music making! These strings will be used to fix old and broken instruments, so that more students can play and excel at music.
With these strings, ten more students will be able to play in our orchestra.
This means that our group will have more players playing, who love music and want to excel in Orchestral music.
We will not only have a String Orchestra, but will be able to combine with band members to have a Symphony Orchestra in our school. The strings will help make music that students will remember for a lifetime.
