This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a Title I school in New Haven, Connecticut. Our school is one of the schools close to downtown, and we service New Haven children as well as children from other districts since we are a magnet school. Ninety percent of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. They are some of the hardest working students I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I am experiencing an explosion of interest in the 5th and 6th grades because my students are encouraging their friends to join. This past year we were able to have four bands, instead of the two last year. It is a great problem to have!
My Project
Our students want to get out in the community and perform for their families, neighbors and friends. In order to do this, we need to get marching lyres to hold up our music on our instruments!
We have been borrowing marching equipment from our incredible friends for a long time, and now we would like to have our very own equipment.
They will be able to perform confidently and proudly now that they can have lyres to hold their music for them. We will be able to perform more and our band will be able to grow with these supplies! Help us make this possible.
