Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This school is a one-of-a-kind school community that strives to provide rigorous, engaging instruction that supports the unique talents, skills, and interests of each student. With both Classical and STEAM programs, teachers focus on teaching the whole child in academically advanced environments and aim to create a community that promotes collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity while celebrating the diversity of the students, families, staff, and community.
Students at this school are high performing and high achieving individuals.
Their parents have enrolled them in our school because they want our school to help them instill the life skills and character traits that will support student success in high school, college, and beyond. As the P.E. and Health teacher, I have made it my mission to inspire these students to be as knowledgeable, confident, and motivated physically as they are academically.
My Project
My students have been learning at home since March of last school year. I see more now than ever that Physical Education is essential in my students' lives. As a physical educator, I am attempting to provide the cognitive content, motor skill instruction, practice opportunities, and motivation for students to be inspired to develop and achieve personal fitness, activity, or skill goals.
Not all students necessarily have the intrinsic desire to resist the tempting sedentary life of staying on an electronic device they've already been on all day in classes or to get outside when the weather is not as inviting.
The task of a P.E. teacher was challenging before remote learning and is even more so now that children are being encouraged to stay in the house. The jump ropes, flying discs, and bean bags I've purchased for students for Quarters 1 and 2 have helped them stay motivated, and I am just looking to keep us rolling for as long as we need to. This equipment can also be used when in person back at school, as many net games played with paddles are good socially distanced games. Please consider helping my students have more opportunities to develop their ability and confidence to be physically active for a lifetime.
