Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students on my team are some of the most dynamic young thinkers of their time. These learners arrive to school each day despite various obstacles and challenges that are beyond their control. All students in our school receive free breakfast, snack, lunch, and supper. Our community is extremely diverse and serves a large population of students who are both students with special needs and English language learners.
Students should not be limited by what they cannot control, and student success begins with the basics.
Our job is to help students overcome the obstacles and challenges that are beyond their control and instill in them a sense of confidence, self-esteem, and self-efficacy.
My Project
Have you ever been stuck in a hard plastic chair at a small metal desk? My students attend seven classes each day and spend 52 minutes in each. Most of their classes involve expectations that require them to spend much of their class time at their seats. Stand or Sit Desks where students can move/stand while they work will offer an alternative for students who may just need to stretch their legs. I have the luxury of roaming freely around my classroom throughout the day but I feel like my students are "locked in" when it comes to their classroom mobility. Stand or Sit Desks could make the difference between a student comfortably activating their mind to learn OR strategizing ways to leave the classroom for a break.
Students need space to stretch their imaginations and what better way than to stretch their legs!
These Stand or Sit desks will allow students an opportunity to find more comfortable space throughout the classroom. With options to allow them the most comfortable physical environment, students may be more focused and willing to stretch their imaginations even further!
