This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students at my school are truly exceptional. We are a Title 1 school which is located in the inner city of Baltimore. Many of my students have witnessed violence, come from dysfunctional environments, and tend to have difficulties coping with their emotions. But they have a heart and a spirit that is willing to learn.
Despite the traumas they may experienced, they come to school seeking out a safe haven from the violence of the world.
We are a elementary/middle school that services students in grades pre-K to 8th grade. Many of students receive free breakfast and lunch. They also come from low income households.
My Project
My students are filled with stress, worry, fear and anger. Covid-19 has negatively impacted the mental health of my inner city students. My students need to learn coping skills. The laminator will be used so that coping skill strategy charts and calm down charts can be placed on students’ desks with goal of teaching them how to self-regulate.
My project will help decrease my students stress and anxiety levels , which will help to improve attention, ultimately helping to increase their academic achievement.
With your support, I will be able to provide anxiety support groups for my middle school students, mindfulness morning moments for my pre-k-8th classes and calm down sessions to help students self-regulate.
