Ms. Johnson from Durham NC is requesting Books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need resources to help them learn social problem solving and emotional regulation.
Our school is a Title I school with about 68% of the students on free or reduced lunch. We have a somewhat transient population with students transferring in and out during the school year. We have students who have experienced trauma and are learning coping skills.
Many of our students struggle with having appropriate social interactions with peers and adults.
These materials will help them learn and practice social competencies to help them be successful in school and life.
These materials will help give our students a common language to help identify and label their emotional "zones" in what we hope will be a school wide initiative.
The Zones of Regulation curriculum and supporting materials will give us the resources to teach across grade levels.
Students will learn to name and recognize the zones in themselves and others. They will learn skills to regulate their emotions.
Younger students will also benefit from learning social problem solving through the We Thinkers 2 curriculum. Through storybooks and supporting activities students will learn about expected and unexpected behaviors and flexible thinking.
All of these materials will be used for multiple classrooms, as well as smaller group work with students who need extra work on learning these skills.
