Help me give my students an I Choose Board, set of Self-Regulation Books, Shubert Puppet and book set, and a Time Travel Mat to support their social and emotional well being.
My students are a group of kindergarteners, ages 5 and 6, in Rhode Island. The students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. I ask them, "Who is the best kindergarten class?" and they reply, "We are!" I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything.
These kids are filled with enthusiasm and love to play and learn.
At this age, my students are like little sponges soaking up every bit of information they see and hear, and I want to provide them with hands-on experiences and help develop their love for learning.

My Project
Kindergarten is a year full of academic learning as well as social-emotional development. As an educator, it is a crucial time to build relationships and help students to self-regulate and problem solve within the classroom. Students will be returning to the classroom after COVID-19 with an abundance of feelings and emotions. The requested Conscious Discipline materials will help me as a teacher to create and sustain a comfortable and safe learning community for all of my students.
Conscious Discipline is a comprehensive classroom management program and a social-emotional curriculum.
It is based on current brain research, child development information, and developmentally appropriate practices. The Schubert puppet and books lead students through situations at school or home that occur on a regular basis. They will help students to discuss and practice what they can do in a similar situation. With the self-control board students are taught to recognize how they are feeling and choose a strategy to help them de-escalate or solve their problem.
By implementing the Conscious Discipline tools, I will undoubtedly be supporting students through their social-emotional journeys, and providing them with a happy and healthy learning community.
