My Students

My students are curious. They want to understand the world around them. They want to question it and learn from it. Today, in the midst of the current civil rights movement and a pandemic, they more than ever want to hear a variety of voices so that they can become more engaged in their communities in a positive way.

My school is in the suburbs and has 61% white students.

My students understand that the cultures and norms they live amidst are not the same for everyone - and they are curious to see other perspectives.

My Project

Representation matters. It matters especially in the classroom.

It is so important that all schools and teachers re-examine their curriculum and their systems.

In order to be truly anti-racist, in order to make real change, we have to start with ourselves and with our own workplaces. My selection of books available to teach is made up primarily of white authors (mostly male). I want to change this.

Dear Martin by Nic Stone is a powerful novel that explores issues of identity and social justice. It is a conversation that started, and it will certainly engage my students in meaningful thinking.
