132 students on our 6th grade team are part of a culturally rich and diverse population of 1400 middle schoolers. Due to Hurricane Maria, our school has taken on numerous students affected and displaced by this life altering event. The goal to expose every student to technology and innovation as an ever changing and increasing method of learning and communicating is a main priority. Students come to us with a good base of computer knowledge. Students growing up in this generation must have technological skills in order to be competitive.
Generations of students today have access to a plethora of online resources which can help with knowledge and application of mathematics. While my students take high stakes tests using technology, there is a lack of access to daily practice using computers as a tool. I want to make these Chromebooks available to my students on a daily basis to help with homework, project applications, testing, and data tracking. In order for students to stay competitive and knowledgeable about technology they must have multiple opportunities to utilize it. These Chromebooks will allow students to individually process math applications at their level using software programs designed to fill in gaps or progress students forward based on academic needs.
