My Students

My fifth grade students are a group with a lot of personality. As part of an amazing and small, yet still urban district, our classroom is very diverse. But one thing we all love to do is read, with "Flashlight Reading Friday," being a class favorite. The classroom library is everyone's favorite spot to relax and we all love to see it grow.

With the diversity of student backgrounds, we also have a variety of needs, around the classroom.

My students want to continue to build their knowledge of all subjects, but especially history and science. This starts as a question which I encourage my students to find their own answers to.

My Project

As a first year teacher, I have started building my classroom library out of donated books, most of which are used. My students love to read! However, they are much more interested in what is "new" and "exciting," which is often the most popular fiction and graphic novels.

New non-fiction books will help get my students interested in something different, learning new facts!

As we continue to learn about history and science in the classroom, the curiosity will be sparked in my students. Having these new books will help to kindle that spark of curiosity and learning in my students.
