Maybe you've heard that you cannot organize clutter. That saying definitely rings true in the classroom! My students and I have been blessed to receive many materials through Donors Choose projects, and we want to keep them neat and orderly.
My students are rambunctious second graders in a rural, Title One school.
There are currently 10 boys and 10 girls in our class, but that number changes often. My students spend their school days engaged in active learning. Science centers and literacy centers are their favorite activities each day.
My Project
The largest item I am requesting, both in price and in size, is a low shelving unit. My students need this shelving unit to keep center materials organized. Currently, I have to leave some center materials on the teaching table until they are in use. This shelving unit can help us keep our materials neat, organized, and in a consistent location. In addition to the shelving unit, I have requested a small pocket chart stand and multi-use pocket charts. These items will also assist my students in keeping their learning materials organized.
This project is important to us because we want to maximize the use of the materials we already have.
The materials I have requested will help us be more organized. Organization, in turn, will allow transition times to be smoother, cut down on misplaced materials, and give students a sense of ownership in the classroom.
