This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Third grade is such an important year for kids because it is the first year that they take the Texas state exam, the STAAR test. In order to get them ready for this test, I share with my students the love of books and reading. The students in my class end up being reading lovers within the first three weeks of school!

My school is home to English as a second language students and a little over one third of the students are from low-income family.

My Project

Finding new and relevant reading material for 3rd graders is sometimes a challenge. That is where StoryWorks Jr. comes in! StoryWorks Jr. presents relevant reading material in all different genres and even included teaching materials so that I can use the magazine to its maximum extent. Through StoryWorks I am hoping that my students will be able to learn how to read and analyze fiction stories, nonfiction literature, and poems in a way that will help them ROCK the state STAAR test! I am looking forward to using these magazines and all the resources that come with them multiple times a week!
