Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 31 students are very bright and love to learn. I want to make my classroom the most enriching learning environment I can. By providing my students with the materials to conduct hands-on learning, we are providing them with endless possibilities.
My favorite part about my students is their diversity.
They come from a very diverse range of home structures with single parent families, multiple-family homes, and foster, migrant, and military families. They also come from many different cultures. We are a Title I school with the majority of our students receiving free/reduced-price breakfast and lunch.
It is important for me to meet the needs of all of my students in a safe and engaging environment.
My Project
My students love StoryWorks! It is such an engaging learning resource. Each issue contains nonfiction, fiction, drama, poetry, and a text pairing. StoryWorks is perfect for struggling readers and English language learners. It allows for a variety of differentiation with leveled articles, audio versions, vocabulary slideshows, and videos to build background knowledge. The lesson plans also offer a variety of differentiation for key ELA skills. There are close-reading and critical-thinking questions for every story, and great ideas for scaffolded lessons and project-based activities. The large selection of online activities and quizzes focus on building analytical reading, writing, and test-taking confidence.
