Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our traditional themed school emphasizes personal responsibility with both our students and their families. I serve, as the teacher librarian, a wonderfully diverse population of students, PreK-5. The teachers and students are all quite excited about library programming, which, in turn, makes me even more excited about what I get to do each and every day. Many of our students are recent immigrants, with families that are dedicated to giving their children the best possible start with their education.
The enthusiasm that our students have each day is intoxicating and it energizes our entire school.
Each day, I get to greet them at the front door and their smiles and hugs create a wonderful environment for me to serve them to the best of my ability.
My Project
A rug specifically designated for storytime will allow our younger students to have their own personal space, while actively listening to a story or a special guest. We have a lovely, older building with a quaint and cozy space for our library. I would like to promote an inclusive environment in the library, while still respecting each individual student's special area. The large, durable, sweetly designed rug I would like to include in my library space will encourage students to sit in their own area and focus during readings and presentations.
