My fifth-grade students are an eager bunch of students who enter the classroom ready to learn. They strive to do their best and persevere each day.
I teach at a Title I school in Arizona, which means that a large percentage of our students receive free or reduced rate lunch.
Some of my students also receive food in a backpack to take home for the weekend. Even though my students may face these challenges, they still come to school yearning to learn.
The materials I am requesting will provide my fifth-grade students access to a plethora of stories of different genres. The students need reading material that will allow them to bring their imagination to life while also having access to stories that relay factual information, and everything else in between. The more materials the students can get their hands on, the more knowledge they can obtain and their love of reading will grow. It is imperative that my fifth-grade students know what it’s like to read novels and excerpts that we can have meaningful discussions about. These magazines and novels will provide my students with the means to be successful in language arts.
