My students need a variety of text to practice comprehension skills. Scholastic Story Works will give my students another type of text to use in class to master the standards besides a text book or novel.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Teaching in an urban setting is what I was born to do. I love every aspect of what I do. Teaching students content is exciting but helping students become well rounded individuals is even more rewarding.
My 4th graders are amazing, talented, hardworking, smart, funny, and energetic.
They aren't just students to me. They are our future, my scholars, my kiddos. My passion is to teach them, but even after 10 years in education, my students continue to teach me every day. My students come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. We are a Title 1 school that continues to thrive and provide an amazing education for our students regardless of their social economic status.
My Project
My students this year are proving to be great readers. They all have at least 3 books at their desks at all times which is by their choice not mine. I love that they love to read novels; however, I need to provide them another avenue in which they can practice their reading skills.
They need to be exposed to a variety of texts and Scholastic Story Works is exactly what we need to grow as readers.
As adults, most of our reading isn't done in novels and a magazine filled with non-fiction, and fiction stories is exactly the resource we need to enhance our abilities.
