My students need Scholastic Story Works magazines to provide them with interesting and on level reading resources.

My 5th grade classroom at in a Title I school in Georgia is a place of fun and learning. In my class, we emphasize cooperative learning, technological fluency and application, and deep-level conceptual engagement. I have a strong belief in teaching methods that encourage critical thought, introspection, and a genuine love of exploration.
My students live in a world of poverty, however, they are upbeat, positive, and full of life.
As their teacher, I am perceptive to the struggles of my students living in poverty and want to provide them with the best opportunities available. Because poverty can be defining, I do not label my students by their situations. I do not seek to combat or overcome student experiences and backgrounds but instead, use students’ experiences and personal contexts as productive learning tools.
Story Works is a wonderful resource for young readers. The magazine provides high interest and high-quality articles with supplements for lower-skilled readers. The students love the colorful graphics and the interesting topics that the articles provide.
Each magazine is strictly aligned to the Common Core standards and give ample resources to teach grammar, vocabulary, close reading and argument development.
Most sections integrate subjects such as social studies and science with reading and literacy.
The Story Works magazine and online teacher resources give access to many differentiation strategies, so students' needs are able to be met at all levels.
