Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My first grade class is an eager, energetic group of students. Our school, located in an inner city, is over 100 years old. Our school is a neighborhood school and all students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students speak English as a second language.

Who doesn't love to hear a good story? My students certainly do. Unfortunately, our tape players have all broken down beyond repair. We need new tape players so that my students can choose a story to listen to and read along with, individually or with a buddy. They would also like some new stories and tapes.

Having an opportunity to listen to a story on tape helps emerging readers to become more fluent, builds comprehension, increases vocabulary, and fosters a love of reading. Students who are acquiring English really benefit from the opportunity to listen to a story over and over.

Your help will make it possible for my students to improve all of their reading skills. You can make a difference in the lives of many first grade students by helping to fund this project. Thank you!
