Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember what is was like to fall in love with reading? My students are just beginning to learn to read. However, budget cuts have left our classroom with limited resources.
My students are some of the smartest five year olds you will ever meet!
Although they are growing up in a world surrounded by drugs, gangs, and violence, their smiles are contagious! They are eager learners and love to learn about new things! Our school is similar to many where the majority of our students are growing up in poverty, with many living below the poverty line! Our school has become a beacon of hope, a safe place for our children. Each and every day, they are rising against all odds to become their best!
My Project
The materials requested will help transform our literacy block. In order for young children to learn to read, they need to practice decoding words! The sight word puzzles and interactive word centers will allow my students to practice decoding, blending and segmenting words, three important steps in becoming a fluent reader. These materials will also help my students build independence and confidence as they learn to read.
My project is important because it will help my students gain confidence in reading.
Through this project, students will be given opportunities to explore key literacy skills year after year. Your donation won't just impact this class, but many to follow! When learning any skill, young children need to get their whole bodies involved. They need to see it, touch it, manipulate it. This project allows my young learners to do just that- play and learn! Everything a 5 year old needs to learn to read!
