Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I help my kindergarten students learn English and become literate in their own language, as well. My students have dreams of making a difference in this world, and they know the importance of having an education. They trust me to provide this, but I need the necessary supplies to help them reach their dreams.
My students are so inquisitive and are always ready to learn despite so many difficult obstacles, especially after Hurricane Harvey.
Please help my students reach their dreams.
My Project
Whole group reading is essential for building a relationship with your students in the beginning of the year. This is where they see me modeling what readers do and how they think; this is also where we all experience stories together and laugh. Whole group reading may look different as we sit farther away from each other, but the goal of building emergent readers will still be necessary.
Children want to hear their teacher read, experience a new story together, and find fun ways to recall that story to their parents and friends!
These story telling kits are a fun way to act out these stories as they are introduced to students and engaging for retelling the stories later. They provide a visual for learners and something tangible that the teacher can use for instruction.
With these kits, I can be active during whole group reading. Many of these children have not sat for longer than 5 minutes listening to a story, so I need more tools to help keep them engaged. I know that with these pencil, pens and kits, my whole group reading instruction will come to life, and the students will enjoy their reading block that much more.
