Ms. H. from Baltimore MD is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need engraving materials including 200 scratch bright gold boards and 1 scratchboard tool assortment to create a ‘Story on a Vase’.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Our school has been working hard to ensure students develop their own voice and stay connected to art and art history. My goal for this Donors Choose project is to give my students the ability to learn ancient Greek art history and techniques by creating their black and red vase scratch paintings.
My students are bright, inquisitive and excited to learn.
However, due to a lack of resources, the school does not have the budget to allow me to purchase supplies. I use a choice-based classroom to allow students to explore and learn new mediums. Many of my students have not had art class before and I want to encourage intrinsic learning. To do all of this, they need to be able to experience art, art history, and artists.
For this project my students will examine a black and red-figure ceramics though scratchboard art. Scratchboard is a technique where the artist scratches away ink to reveal a color underneath, and is a great way to teach students the importance of highlights in an artwork. I am requesting 200 scratch bright gold boards and a scratchboard tool assortment. The supplies will be used to develop the art studio and introduce a new medium and allow my students to learn valuable art skills.
