My Students
I teach in a low socioeconomic school and unfortunately, many of the children that come through my room don't have basic supplies. Therefore, I provide most of the materials that are in my room. Regardless of their backgrounds, all of my students are excited about being at school and they love to learn new things. Creating a fun, safe environment is the ultimate goal so my students know they can learn while having fun. Being in a low income area, my students don't have the chance to be exposed to much technology, so having the chance to provide that for them is something I strive to do.
My Project
Providing my students with a working listening center will provide my students a fun way to listen and follow along with their favorite stories. This will not only increase the amount of fluent reading that will be exposed to my students but will increase their love for reading by offering a fun and exciting way to hear stories. It will also provide my ESL students more exposure to the English language. I could also purchase Spanish reading sets to be listened to as well. Students will get to use the listening center during our literacy station time. Students will get to listen to multiple stories and then have the chance to retell those stories to friends and other teachers.
