I teach in a Title I school where 100% of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. My students come from a low-income population and miss out on many of the opportunities that children usually experience.
The children in my class love coming to school!
They are eager to learn and are making great progress towards meeting their kindergarten goals, as well as making friends and learning social skills.
My school serves a transient population, including students from military as well as homeless and displaced families. Our students often come to us with gaps in their education and many need extra support to reach grade-level standards, but it's so exciting to watch them grow throughout the year.
My Project
These Magnetic Story Boards will provide a tactile way for my young students to practice story writing. The magnetic word pieces will let them arrange and rearrange their sentences in different ways without having to continually erase and rewrite.
With the magnetic manipulatives, students can plan and create their stories before they ever begin putting them down on paper.
The physical process of writing can be difficult for my kindergartners. The effort to form their letters properly and use best penmanship can slow down the creative process. The Write-and-Wipe Rainbow Sentence Strips will allow students to practice writing their sentences and spelling in preparation for writing their final drafts.
Writing is a critical skill for first grade and beyond. I want to do all I can to make writing a fun and natural process for my young learners. These materials can provide the skills support that they need while giving them an enjoyable activity through which they can express themselves.
