Mrs. B. from KS is requesting reading nooks, desks & storage through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need storage materials so we can be good stewards of the items we purchase with money we worked hard to earn.

Over the past several years, I have watched our Student Council officers grow from timid individuals with insipid results to an inspired team that effects concrete change in our school. They work hard and are committed, despite also managing jobs, sports, theatre, and challenging course loads. These students are the best of the best, despite the fact that many of them have not experienced true leadership at home throughout their lives. Student Council is a safe place in a world that is frequently very unsafe and a training ground for a world of stability, power, and self-fulfillment they may have never experienced.
Our Student Council has learned to model leadership through service and the results have been astounding.
Peers now acknowledge the work they do and are beginning to trust that Student Council is a legitimate organization. These experiences in leadership are equipping young people to take on challenges outside of school and thus preparing them to do whatever great things they may choose when they leave high school.
Four years ago, Student Council's materials closed was a corner in a closet filled with medical documents. Now, through hard work and innovation, StuCo owns a wide variety of things - props, assembly decorations, dance accessories like black lights and a bubble machine, and also t-shirts and other giveaway items to use throughout the school year. We've moved up to a bigger closet with more space, but we are still storing materials in recycled cardboard boxes, many of which have seen better days. These shelves and storage bins will supplement the meager storage supplies we already have an allow us to protect tiaras, organize balloon anchors, and safely guard glow sticks from year to year.
