Help me give my students the love of language by providing a "HamiltonBuhl Wireless 6 person" listening centers complete with audiobooks. For many students, Kindergarten is their 1st exposure to a love of reading!
My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects that allow them to move and interact with learning. They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both academically and socially.
This classroom did not start in August like the other sections of Kindergarten.
It was put together in mid-October because of the number of Kindergarten students in the other classes, so it was a bit of a challenge to get the classroom to look like an interactive Kindergarten classroom. My students love to roll foam dice when we are working to add numbers, using Play-doh to make sight words and listening and looking at literature. Just the other day, one student said, "look Mrs. Beattie, there is "A Queen BEE" in the book, just like you". We talk a lot in our classroom about working together to support each other, I love that they are making connections even in the books we read. We have made progress since October but there are items that we still need to create the hands-on environment that will allow the students to be successful.
My Project
These audio books will enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy-I read on the carpet to them, every day and they are captivated during that time. I want them to have the independence to select a book and have it come to life while they listen to the story being told. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind-I know they will be thrilled to listen to them with other students at the listening center.
With this new listening center, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to see and hear the stories come to life.
They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
