My students are an incredibly positive and hard-working group of young people. My classes are a beautiful representation of the diverse backgrounds of southern California.
This year, my students adamantly want to work to make a difference in our surrounding community.
They are just starting middle school and have immense potential as leaders...not of the future but of this present moment. They have such an exuberance for life and are developing a keen sense of responsibility and compassion for others. These young people truly are ready to think critically and work hard to question, research, understand different perspectives, collaborate and then transform our school, our neighborhoods, our city, and our world into a brighter and better place for all.
My Project
This literature set provide the essential and shared understanding of diverse human perspectives and experiences. Our students will be able to choose from a wide range of texts centered on the theme of "Stories of Change."
Our students truly want to feel connected to the lives of others.
These books will augment our class culture of empathetic, caring, compassionate, and informed community citizens. These stories will be the springboards for excellent and critical classroom conversations about topics that matter to young people. From these novels and stories, our students will be able to inquire further into topics such as acceptance, anti-bullying, immigration, refugees, and the development of self and connection to others.
