Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My campus is a Title I campus which means that more than 50% of the students are receiving free or reduced price lunch. It is my goal to give them as many hands-on experiences in the classroom as I can in any way possible.
My students are creative, imaginative and inquisitive individuals.
They love learning and experiencing new things every day. It brings a smile to my face seeing them get excited about all the things they are learning in our classroom.
My Project
Storytelling and re-enacting stories is a very important part of the pre-k classroom. Not only does it help them with their oral communication skills, it also is a great way to improve their social skills. By having books the students are familiar with(Rainbow fish, snowy day, and if you give a mouse a cookie) as well as puppets and props that go with them, they will be able to better understand and act out the play. Theses books and many others are all included in the storytelling kits. By using the big books along with the felt pieces and activity cards, I will be able to have the students go deeper into the stories that they already know.
Students will gain confidence when they start retelling a story they heard someone else tell.
When students feel comfortable and confident in the classroom, it will make them more successful in and out of the classroom.
