With the added challenge of COVID-19, blended and distance learning, technology, and providing children with basic learning supplies is more important than ever. We have computers, and no way to charge all of them for use.
My school has approximately 70% free or reduced-price lunch with about a 30% student turnover rate, due to financial insecurity, students and families move often.
My children learn in diverse ways and are engaged through hands-on, play-based learning, and through technology integration. Not all students have access to computers or the internet at home. Technology integration and play-based learning opportunities provide kindergartners with the schema for future global success in a technology-saturated world.
My Project
In the times we live, my students and myself need to be ready to learn at home under quarantine or follow strict protocols for sanitation while in the classroom. We were the first in our district to return to in-person instruction. I’ve done my best to supply students with dollar store containers inside donated file crates but they aren’t holding up to the typical wear and tear in kindergarten. When sent home, not everything was returned and so supplies are inequitable. My request is two-fold: Having storage materials for at school that I can easily sanitize and clean regularly that will hold up to the typical abuse of kindergartners as well as have access to teaching materials other teachers are creating for the days we are and are not in school. We don’t teach the way we are used to and this means we need access to more resources that teachers understand. TpT is a great resource for these. I need more resources. We have sub plans for in person, remote learning, quarantine and snow days. This doesn’t encompass all the scenarios to help ensure students are learning in different capacities. It’s overwhelming. These resources would help ease the burden for myself and my students tremendously.
