Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach approximately 40 second grade students in the disciplines of Math, Science and Social Studies. I teach at a Title I school and cater to a diverse population. Students enjoy different opportunities for learning and I use STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education in my classroom to show my students how these subjects relate to the real world and to challenge my students to think outside the box. STEM learning provides my students with the opportunity to explore key standards with their peers in a collaborative setting.
My Project
Storage containers and baggies will be used to store current STEM materials as well as student materials when they are working on a specific project.
Along with STEM projects, flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them.
During independent work times they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as the floor, on our sofa, using seat cushions or at the "cool" blue table. The whiteboards will be used during this time to provide for individual and group responses.
