My students need classroom storage bins for manipulatives that are used throughout subjects, as well as book bags and book boxes so they can have a safe and easily accessible place to store their books.
My students come from a variety of different backgrounds. Over 80% of my students are on free or reduced lunch. Irving, Texas is known as one of the most diverse zip codes in Texas. As an ESL teacher, my students come to me speaking a variety of languages but one thing they all have in common is their desire to learn! Every morning my students are excited as can be to learn the lessons for the day, and it's amazing to see their academic motivation.
My Project
The materials I am requesting for my classroom already have a "home" in my classroom. First of all, the storage bins will help my students easily identify and access manipulatives such as blocks, clocks, rulers, and counters used in subjects such as math and science. In first grade, many activities are hands on with students having the opportunity to learn and practice what they are learning through the use of manipulatives. The book bags will be used to store the books they are currently in the process of reading. These bags will also make it easier for them to transport their books to and from school while also protecting the books from damages and keeping them together.
