My students need more personal workspace within the classroom. Having better storage options like this storage cart would allow for me to replace a large table with this compact storage station.
Located in rural south Georgia, with a tightly-knitted community revolving around agriculture, we are a Title 1, School of Excellence. Our student population is equally balanced, representing a beautiful mixture of race, culture, and socio-economic backgrounds. 100% of our students receive free or reduced-cost school breakfast and lunch. The leaky gutters and worn brick walls show the age of our school, but the children within the walls paint a much different picture.
Like a thriving bee hive, the students inside the school are all about business, scattered in groups, learning labs, and classrooms; you can't help but share the excitement as you observe the learning taking place.
All K-5 students participate weekly in Art, Music, PE, Media Center, and Computer Lab. Unique to our school, each class is responsible once per year to produce a musical and perform for the school and parents every Friday during our Chapel Program. The students at our school take a lot of pride in their work both in the classroom and in the community. Many of our students participate in sports, volunteer in the community, active in the arts, and show animals in local 4-H competitions.
My Project
This storage cart would help with an overcrowded art room by providing students with more work area and standing area to enter and exit the classroom. Right now student supplies are set out on a table for ease of access. Replacing a bulky table with this compact storage cart would give us more much-needed room.
Because the shelves are low and include clear storage containers, smaller hands can more easily access materials.
I feel it's important for students to take responsibility of classroom materials and keep the room neat. This cart will help reinforce this practice.
This classroom was not originally designed for it's current use as a STEAM classroom. LIttle by little, with your help, together we can make this room better foster creativity, learning, and discovery.
