Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students at this Title I school in Los Angeles are bright, cheerful, motivated and enthusiastic learners. The students range from special education to gifted learners. Because my students are diverse, the use of cognitive strategies can significantly impact certain learning outcomes.
The goal is to create a Cognitive Guided Learning environment for my students.
CGI instruction is a way of listening to students, asking smart questions, and engage with their thinking. All with the goal of uncovering and expanding every student's understanding.
My Project
I'm converting my classroom to a CGI (cognitive learning instruction) environment. The chair organizers will help with the management of the student's personal supplies.
A cognitive strategy serves to support the learner as they develop internal procedures that help them perform tasks that are complex.
The tables that the students will use do not have any storage space to hold text books or supplies.
The behind-the-chair storage pockets are perfect for the students to have easy access to their notebooks, textbooks and other items they will need throughout the day.
This also allows me to have flexible seating so students can choose different areas of the classroom to complete their work.
