Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I will be teaching third grade reading and writing at a Title I campus in Texas in the upcoming school year. Of our campus population, 95% of our students receive free and reduced-rate lunch. Some of my students come from homes that are almost in unlivable conditions.
My class will consist of 40 very diverse bilingual students who mostly come from low-income homes.
All of the students at our campus are eager to learn and truly have a love of learning. All of the students in my class are English language learners (ELLs) at various levels.
My Project
This year I will be teaching reading after having taught only math. I really want to provide my students with a good classroom library for them to check out books from.
I believe that a classroom library is the heart of a classroom.
I have been working on purchasing and acquiring an array of books for my students and I am in need of a place to store them. In my cart, you will find 3 bookcases. I also added a bean bag lounger to add another option for my students flexible seating.
Earlier in the school year, my students were impacted by Hurricane Harvey. They were forced to miss school for two weeks. Please help me on my journey to build lifelong learners.
