Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a first year teacher in a low-income/high poverty Title I school where 100% of students qualify for the free breakfast and lunch program. My students come from diverse backgrounds and have a wide variety of learning styles and needs both in and out of the classroom. The typical student in my room is performing below grade level in reading and math and is struggling to focus on their learning.
Having access to these resources will provide students with the motivation to learn 21st century skills, meet reading and math goals, and be successful in today's society.
I love working with my students because they are the most resilient kids I’ve met and they have such great potential to change the world.
My Project
The literacy games, materials, and headphones will allow my students be more attentive during our independent reading centers. My students currently do not have any headphones and they are necessary for our online reading and math interventions programs especially during our monthly testing. Students also use Chromebooks everyday to read books, complete class assignments, research, and listen to educational videos, and more, so limiting background noise is essential. The games and letters will help my struggling learners who require more hands-on materials to improve their reading and writing skills.
Learning centers will help all students remain focused and practice skills we’ve covered which will lead to greater learning.
Students completing centers and Chromebook activities with functioning and sturdy headphones will make them more motivated and will increase their overall reading ability. They will gain more ownership of their learning and be more focused. When students are focused and engaged, there are less behavior issues in my classroom. My students will benefit from these materials greatly!
