This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are sixth grade special education and we are family! My scholars live in a community that is plagued with poverty and violence. They have been exposed to ongoing trauma and many suffer from low self-esteem and / or poor self image.
Our classroom is a safe space, where students are free to be themselves, express their feelings and explore their interests.
They need access to materials that will teach them interpersonal Skills and emotional regulation strategies. Knowledge is power and these kiddos deserve the best!
My Project
We will use the “stop, think, act“ emoji system to help us manage classroom behavior and enhance our communication skills.
Students will also learn important interpersonal and social skills while playing these fun SEL learning games.
Desktop behavior trackers will help students be mindful of their behavior in class and encourage them to consider how emotions might influence behavior. Teachers will complete the rewards slips for students who put genuine effort into trying to understand their feelings and the feelings of others. Emojis are an excellent way to help our scholars express themselves and identify how they are feeling. Emojis are both fun and age-appropriate.
