My students need practice supplies to practice and teach the "stop the bleed" program to prepare others in the event of a trauma event. Having the approved equipment (tourniquets & gauze) available is critical.
My students are in a Health Science Program, preparing for careers in healthcare. Having the tools to practice and understand in a simulation is powerful. Our aim is to work together to make learning fun and come to own the knowledge through scenarios and games. The more we practice, the more situations and questions develop! How many penguins can they get for suggestions/ideas that work?! Keeping them engaged is motivating and gives them self direction and confidence as they plan their college majors.
My Project
All health science program students will be participating in our Stop The Bleed Program initiated this year in conjunction with a state wide effort to be prepared to treat casualties in the event of a trauma event. As a registered nurse and teacher, I have received instructor status for our school and want to certify my health science students so they too can hold classes for the school body.
Knowing how to apply a tourniquet and pack a wound takes practice and having the supplies to simulate scenarios is critical.
The CAT tourniquets and Kling gauze will be used as practice materials on 3 ft foam noodles as tourniquets are secured in a variety of scenarios. The CAT tourniquets and Quikclot strategically placed in the school setting would actually be used in the event of a live situation.
