My students need an appropriately sized guitar with strings, picks, headphones and a cable, to correctly learn and enjoy this instrument at the elementary level.

My Students

The goal of every classroom teacher is to make their lessons relevant to the students. Although music surrounds young children through TV and the radio, outdated school instruments keep them from experiencing what it is like to really enjoy the creativity of music.

Our students are certainly up against a wall of poverty and home environments.

Although we live a short drive to a very affluent area, the distance could be world away. Most of our students improve the quality of their lives just by getting out of their neighborhoods to attend school. We offer a safe and loving environment and look to spoil these students in any way we can. Most teachers provide many of their own materials due to budget restraints and program cuts but it does not stop us from wanting the very best for these boys and girls.

My Project

Everyone has a little rocker in themselves. Kids love to imitate what they see and hear in their everyday lives and electric guitars will certainly offer them a chance to actually play real instruments. I would like to provide them with a smaller sized electric guitar to better fit their elementary age frames. This guitar will also have picks, a headphone set, and other accessories like strings. The multi-stand will accommodate several older guitars that we already have. The headphone will also allow them to experiment and practice without disturbing others.

The acoustic guitars we do have are very old and in poor shape.

All were originally donated by staff members or parents and were already used when we received them. Electric guitars definitely bring out the cool factor and will encourage our students to explore this instrument as well as the joy of performance in music.
