My Students

I currently have 17 energetic first graders who are eager to learn every day. Our Title I school is fully emerged in STEAM learning and we do our best to ensure all students have access to various technologies and STEAM materials that are not available to them anywhere else. While they are using these materials every day, they are moving throughout the classroom as part of our student-centered classroom.

My first graders love to learn about anything, especially when it involves coding, making, and building!

They love to be actively engaged and it shows when they are using materials they love. This inquisitive group of kids continue to amaze me each and every day! They are native digital storytellers, but do not have the equipment available in school to show off their skills.

My Project

Our first graders are amazing storytellers. They want to tell me a story every single day. These digital natives love to use technology in and out of the classroom. What better way for them to learn than to combine the two! Our highly motivated learners will be able to collaborate using iPod touches in the classroom and create stop-motion digital stories. The Zing Stikbots and Duplo Lego figures are a great way to begin the process with their easy to use app and bendable figures. To begin our storytelling process, we will recreate stories from our Reading Series. This allows our students to have a deeper understanding of the stories we read each week. Students will be able to build on the stories by changing the ending, adding characters, and even creating their own versions. Students will be able to use this active learning environment, take it a step further, and tell stories about something we are researching in any subject. For example, we can create a story for Black History Month on the life of Rosa Parks or we could use the stop-motion stories to explain the characteristics of each animal group. The possibilities are endless.

With Peel and Stick Green Screen Paint, we can use these materials and tools to create live action story-telling videos.

Students can create, edit, and produce a classroom digital book. Each student can create a page and can read them in front of the green screen while their illustrations can show up behind them. There is no better way to increase reading fluency than hearing yourself read. Our green screen station will be a place where students can go to tell their stories in person or with action figures.
